Local students shine at shopping centre musical showcase
A free music event for students took place in Winchester last Thursday.
The Brooks Shopping Centre, in Winchester, held ‘Student Night’ on the 10th of October in the centre’s atrium, where students performed song covers and even some of their own.
The event was held between 6 – 9 pm and was organised by the Brooks Shopping Centre, which included students from the University of Winchester performing for the evening.
One of the organisers of the event and marketing manager for the Brooks, Vicki Oliver, said on Instagram: “The Student Night proved a great success with over 300 students coming along.”
Shops such as Primark, TK Maxx and HMV remained open for the evening, allowing students to shop after hours with discounts.
Singers such as Show Choir, the Nowhere, Rosie and Niddy, and Alex Read performed for about 30 minutes each.
The event held a raffle, giving away numerous prizes including a vinyl record player and discount vouchers for the stores.
While Shakeaway and Marse Winchester Nepalese Takeaway sampled the food.
Georgina Lovelock, one of the singers for the Show Choir said: “Our performance was a 30-minute set of some songs we did last year, and it was very good.
“We had some new members in, and they learnt the songs yesterday.”
Alfie Hickson, another member of the choir, said: “It’s always fun to perform to the audience, it was a fun little crowd.
“When we start playing a song that people know and they react, that’s always fun.”
