Man, 20, dies in car crash on Hayling Island

On the 10th of October 20-year-old Cameron Knouwds, who was driving a Mazda 2, died after crashing into a nearby tree before 7:30am.

The death of the rugby fan has stirred Hayling Island, as the crash site was flooded with tributes, flowers and signed rugby balls. His car was reported to have left the road and crashed into a nearby tree just south of Daw Lane.

In a policewoman’s statement she mentioned: ‘Despite best efforts of the emergency services the driver, a 20-year-old man from Hayling Island, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.’

Before the tragic accident, the young man was starting a new stage in his life reportedly moving to accommodation in Somerset to complete his last year at the local college in electrical installation. He was a well-loved individual of the community and within Havant Rugby football club as a regular player.

In a statement passed through Hampshire police, his family stated: “Cam was dearly loved by his family and friends, highly regarded and respected by peers, tutors and people that crossed his path. He will be missed for his deadpan humour and no-nonsense approach to life, a kind soul who loved animals and with never a bad word for anyone”
