Pandemic forces Winchester Green Week online
Winchester Green Week will move online due to Coronavirus restrictions, organisers have announced.
With over 50 events and 30 organisations involved with ‘Winchester Green Week’ the council is hoping to “inspire people of all ages across our district to take action and play their part in tackling the climate crisis” says Councillor Lynda Murphy, Cabinet member for the climate emergency.
A council spokesman said: “Due to the restrictions around gatherings we are doing it differently to how we would in previous years and focusing heavily on social media”.
“So far the conference has received nearly 200 sign ups”.
A virtual conference called ‘Routes to Carbon Neutrality’ will also be held as part of Green Week.
The conference will host eco-experts Dr Duncan East, Head of Sustainability at Marwell Zoo, and Professor Bakr Bahaj, from Southampton University. Winchester Councillors will also be speaking and answering participant questions.
The conference, taking place on Thursday and Friday (1st
and 2nd October), is free to the public who can book onto any of the
sessions through the winchester.gov.uk website.
