Portsmouth have appointed Danny Cowley as their new head coach.

The announcement was made tonight and fans immediately showed support by putting cow emojis in their names on social media. The official Portsmouth account also changed their profile picture to say “Portsmooth”.

Earlier this week, Kenny Jackett was sacked following a spell of poor results, losing all five of his recent matches.

The final nail in the coffin came on Sunday, when the blues lost the EFL Trophy final 4-2 on penalties to League Two side Salford City at Wembley.

Andrew Moon who reports for the club and BBC Solent told Winol that after  “a four year run of moderate success” the recent “drop in form has been dramatic and surprising” and “the club felt like they had to do something”.

“I don’t think it’s the manager losing the dressing room cliche… I actually think the players are disappointed because a manager being sacked… doesn’t reflect well on them”

“They still have a really good chance of reaching the playoffs… there’s no easy game as the cliche goes… but in the last ten games they are playing six of the bottom seven”

Cowley joins the club on an initial contract to the end of the season, alongside his brother Nicky.

They are renowned for a more attacking style of play that they implemented at both Lincoln and Huddersfield.

Cowley stated in an interview on the Club’s official site that the brothers “have a clear model of how we like to play – fast, attacking football with a high energy and intensity.”

His first test in charge comes tomorrow as the Blues face Ipswich who recently appointed former Pompey boss Paul Cook as their manager.
