Sparkford Road Closure

Yet another road in Winchester is being closed for essential work to be done.

The section of Sparkford Road located between its junction with Sleeper’s Hill and its junction with Burma Road has been shut off to traffic whilst gasworks are being completed.

The road has been partially closed since the 20th of November, with plans to stay closed at least nine weeks on from this. The work has been ordered by Hampshire County Council, and will be taking place between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday to Friday.

Sparkford Road acts as one of the main ways for drivers to get to and from the University of Winchester, with diversions to Romsey Road, or through central Winchester adding time onto what should be a simple journey.

This now means there are three roads in Winchester that are closed for construction:

  • – Sparkford Road
  • – North Walls
  • – Garnier Road

With all of these roads expected to be shut until spring of 2024, Winchester is currently a commuter’s worst nightmare.

And as the Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market draws in more visitors to the city, traffic is at a high, and we suggest anybody planning on travelling in Winchester to give extra time for any journey or to consider using public transport.
