A 35-year-old woman has been found not guilty of attempted murder in Basingstoke.

On the 13 October Lucy Povey was found not guilty of the attempted murder of Sharon Dorkin, her partner’s ex-wife.

The case was heard in Winchester Crown Court in a trial lasting over a week.

CCTV was shown to the jury of Ms Povey driving her car into Ms Dorkin and two others – leaving Ms Dorkin with knee injuries.

Lucy Povey was found not guilty of all charges as the court heard that she had mistakenly put the car into reverse instead of first gear in a moment of panic in which she felt “dazed and confused”.

This was backed up by the defence with other evidence including a 999 call from Ms Povey at 11:06pm shortly after the incident had happened.

Ms Povey testified that she only saw Ms Dorkin after she had been hit by the car.

The jury returned a verdict of not guilty on Thursday.
