Campaigners are planning to hold a march in Winchester this Saturday.

The event is being organised by Winchester’s Liberal Democrats and the Hampshire European Movement.

One of the organisers, Liberal Democrat councillor Kim Gotlieb said: “The march is taking place to remind politicians and particularly our own MP that people are unhappy with the proposal and certainly everyone’s unhappy with a no deal.

“Winchester was a very strong supporter of remain at the referendum, we have to carry on fighting until we hopefully see everything abandoned.

“This is an issue that will affect people for decades and centuries to come and we can’t sit by and do nothing.

Councillor Gotlieb added that they are hoping for upwards of 500 people to attend the march.

Winchester was one of the most pro-remain places in England in the referendum – 58.9% of people voted remain.

The Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable, Lib Dem peer Lady Kramer, Labour peer Lord Adonis and campaigner Jason Hunter will speak at the event.

The protesters will meet on Saturday February 9thoutside HSBC on the high street at 2:45pm. They will then go down the High Street and gather for a rally outside the guildhall at 3pm.
