Latest Train Strikes: How they affect Winchester
Train services across the country, including the London Underground, are set to be hit by yet another wave of strikes.
These strikes will take place on Saturday 30th of September and Wednesday 4th of October.
RMT and ASLEF union members are all set to partake in these strikes and walk out on these days over the ongoing dispute about their pay and working conditions.
ASLEF union members striking will mean there will be no drivers or people qualified to operate the trains. Whereas when the RMT union members strike, large disruption occurs due to the large number of jobs done by these union members.
Thousands of rail way workers operating the tube and London Underground are also expected to take part in these strikes, but here’s how Winchester will be affected.
SouthWestern Railway will run an extremely limited service, operating on a small number of lines during these strike days. There will be no services for the company on Island Lines.
CrossCountry services will not run at all on these days.
There is also an ASLEF overtime ban in place this autumn. An overtime ban is a form of industrial action just short of a strike, where workers will refuse to work overtime. Some operators could choose to run the same timetable as strike days, but staff will still turn up to work as normal.
A number of rail services will be affected on these days, but not as severely as the strike days. These overtime ban days will take place on the following days:
Friday 29th September
Monday 2nd October
Tuesday 3rd October
Wednesday 4th October
Thursday 5th October
Friday 6th October
