New Forest Fairy Festival cancelled

The New Forest Fairy Festival was cancelled just three days before the event was supposed to take place, despite previously declaring that the event was Covid-secure. 

The festival was due to take place in Burley over the 26^th and 27^th September.

Chrissie John, a regular Fairy Festival goer, told Winol: “I’ve been for the last three years with the kids. I am really gutted. We were all looking forward to it so much, it really is a wonderful family-friendly event. It’s an outdoor festival, so I am surprised about the cancellation.”

The mystical themed festival has been a massive hit for people of all ages over the past seven years, so it was upsetting for the fans, and all involved who bring the magic to life, when the event got cancelled by Public Health England 72 hours before it was due to commence.

The festival is usually held in August but got pushed back to September because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The official Facebook page for the festival broke the news and explained that Public Health England “took the decision out of [their] hands”.

The Fairy Festival was adapted to have hand-sanitization stations around the venue, have a regular and in-depth cleaning regimen and would only allow pre-booked ticket access to workshops to keep the festival clean and safe.

However, due to the rise in coronavirus transmission rates in the UK, it has been important to irradicate any event or activity which could be a contributing factor, although it is still unclear as to why an outdoor event would still require such strict measures.
