Solent stumped by mystery stink
Concerned residents have been calling gas company SGN about the “unusual smell” in the Solent area.
Hannah Brett, from SGN, said: “There’s nothing so far to suggest the smell came from our network.”
Hampshire Constabulary has also released a statement on Facebook and Twitter asking if anyone can identify the cause of the smell:
“We’re aware of reports of an unusual smell in coastal areas across Hampshire & IOW.”
The police say residents across the Solent, including the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham, Netley and Southampton reported the smell to SGN.
The SGN spokesperson added: “We would always recommend that anyone who can smell gas should call the national gas emergency number.”
