Station riding wave of popularity

Local radio station Wave 105 is celebrating after results showed it has more listeners than any of its local rivals.

Figures from Radio Joint Audience Research (RAJAR) revealed that the Hampshire station has an audience 3.4 times greater than its closest rival Heart Solent.

The radio station said in a tweet shortly after the news: “Wave 105 is celebrating! 423,000 people now tune in to us every week & you’re also now listening for longer than ever before… thanks!”

Those record breaking figures put them ahead of their rivals, with 5,483,000 total listening hours a week; 3,745,000 ahead of the next best commercial station.

Wave 105 was launched in 1998, and in 2004 notably won the NTL Commercial Radio Station of the Year award.
