Students confused nationwide over government travel window

Students across the country still face confusion over the government’s travel window. The travel window is open between 3rd December and 9th December to allow students to return home for the Christmas break.

This window will allow for students to continue their studies from home, as the government pushes to get Higher Education providers to move their teaching online.

The government has also said that universities should also have systems in place for students to travel during this window, such as “planning transport support, staggered departures and moving teaching online early so students can finish their studies from home.”

However, there has been some confusion as to how to arrange travel during this window, especially for courses that rely on practical elements.

Megan Ball, President of the University of Winchester, told WINOL: “This is the kind of clarity and support that student unions and universities have been asking the government for since the beginning of the academic term. However, it is worth noting that there has been some confusion and nervousness from students since the Government announced the travel window.”

While the travel window is soon to be coming to a close, the Government is yet to announce plans for students needing to travel after this window.
