Students are being urged to buy a TV licence after over 800 people in Hampshire were caught illegally watching TV.

New research from TV Licensing says 33,000 people nationwide were caught watching without a licence

TV Licensing is reminding new students that they could face fines of up to £1,000 if they are caught using BBC television services without a licence.

Jason Hill, a TV Licensing representative, said: “If students are concerned about paying for a TV Licence, they should get in touch.

‘‘We know some people struggle to pay, and there are many payment options available, from paying in one go to spreading the cost over the year.’’

A TV licence is £147 per year.
