People affected by mental health problems are being urged to come forward, as part of a nationwide initiative.

For World Mental Health Day there is a talk in Hampshire by a leading expert about living well with mental health issues.

Dr Katrina Webster will lead a discussion about how people with mental health issues can be supported and the organisations that specialise in helping sufferers.

An NHS spokesman said: “This event is here to raise awareness for people suffering from mental health.”

The event tonight at the Wisdom Centre in Romsey is aimed at removing the stigma of mental health issues and will run in tandem with World Mental Health day.

Public Health England has stressed the benefits of investing in mental health interventions.

Every £1 invested in the “school based resilience programme” results in an estimated saving to society of £5.08.
