Thomas Tuchel has been appointed head coach of the England national team following Gareth Southgate’s resignation in July.

The UEFA Champions League winning manager has put pen to paper on an 18-month contract and will officially take charge of the Three Lions from 1 January 2025 as the third ever foreign head coach of the national team.

Tuchel will be assisted by coach Anthony Barry, with a further update regarding a coaching team expected to come in the near future.

Speaking on the German’s appointment, FA CEO Mark Bullingham said: “We are thrilled to have hired Thomas Tuchel, one of the best coaches in the world and Anthony Barry who is one of the best English coaches to support him.”

The new England boss said: “I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team.

“I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already.

“To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.”

England Under-21s manager and current interim boss of the senior team Lee Carsley is due to see out England’s UEFA Nations League group stage in November before handing over to Tuchel.
