Walton and Hersham make it 11 unbeaten as Farnborough dumped out of FA Trophy
Walton and Hersham progressed to the third round of the FA Trophy after a 2-1 win over Farnborough.
Despite there being a league difference between the two sides, Walton and Hersham were expected by many people to progress to the next round, having been top of the Southern Football league for the majority of the season, whilst Farnborough have been struggling in the National League South having only won four of their league games so far.
Walton and Hersham started the stronger out of the two teams, having a strong penalty shout with Louie Holzman fouling Stefan Parkes only just outside the penalty box, with the resulting free kick being saved by Jack Turner.
Dawid Rogalski would break the deadlock after playing a nice one-two with Johl Powell, with the Pole firing low past Turner in the Farnborough goal to give the Swans the lead.
After the goal, Farnborough would grow into the game more, pressing and creating chances of their own. They would pull themselves level with Billy Clifford cutting inside after beating a couple defenders and bending one into the far corner to change the mood of Spencer Day’s half-time team talk.
It didn’t seem to have much impact as Walton and Hersham retook the lead, with Powell this time turning scorer after being played in by Joey Jones, beating two Farnborough defenders on the line.
After the match, Spencer Day described his side as being “wasteful” and “lacking quality” after losing to the same team who knocked them out in the FA cup last year, falling to the same fate this year.
