Winchester Cheerleading: What it takes to be a cheerleader and high spirits about upcoming competitions.
Cheerleading a sport in England that isn’t as common as the likes of football, rugby and cricket but what many people would not know is what it takes to be a cheerleader.
Cheerleader captain Khia Weaver said: “You need to be strong; you need to be confident…. you need to hold a positive mind set and be big on teamwork”.
These are just a few qualities that you would need to be part of the Winchester cheerleading team, The Winchester Spirits.
The ability to be able to do flips and tricks and do this all intime with other people around you is part of the “be big on teamwork” quote.
This is to make sure that everyone knows what theyre doing and when to do it sos that no one gets hurt or injured.
Performing well in competitions is also a key quality when it comes to being part of the team.
As last year the spirts came away from their competitions as division champions and national champions for level one coed.
At this moment in time the spirits are training for their upcoming competitions in January. Another cheerleading captain Amira Hojeij said:” It’s going really well we are in a really good place just before Christmas things are starting to hit in runs.
We’ve just started to clean up a bit now and make sure that it is all in time ready for our comps in January”.
With training going well and spirits being high heading towards competition day Winchester have set their sights on defending their title as division and reginal champions in January of 2025.
