As we all know cricket is commonly known as a summer sport, but it can be played over the winter.

However, it is not entirely the same game, for the Winchester cricket team they compete in an indoor cricket league called the South Hampshire Indoor Cricket League.

Captain of the cricket team Charlie Hills said:” The biggest difference i would say is the running between the wickets because of all the deflections of the walls”.

Indoor cricket is alot more fast paced than outdoor cricket as it is played in a sports hall which means the ball are in play for a longer period than outdoor cricket which means there is only a small window to make up runs after hitting the ball.

He then said:” There is a-lot less overs so basically a T10 so only 10 overs”.

With 6 ball an over teams must try and score as many runs as they can off just 60 balls.

So far this season both of the cricket teams at Winchester have started slowly with only one win between them out of 6 games.

There is a lot of work to do in training and making sure that Winchester can pick up some more wins in the future.

Charlie said:”We have got to get people used to playing in a new format and fielding positions”.

Switching between indoor and outdoor cricket is tricky but Winchester are building on what they have done so far and are looking to finish the season off strongly.
