Winchester Hospice close to hitting £3.7 million target

Winchester Hospice’s fundraising appeal is now more than 90 per cent of the way towards hitting its 3.7 million pound capital target.

With the support of these funds, Burrell House will be renovated into Winchester Hospice, a Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust-run hospice.

Located on the grounds of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Burrell House holds an important legacy in the city, being used as accommodation for many healthcare professionals since the First World War.

After renovations, Winchester Hospice will be the home of a palliative care team that will provide compassionate and specialist care for up to ten inpatients as well as patients in hospital and in their own homes.

Winchester Hospice’s fundraising team’ recently held an online event and auction, ‘I Love Winchester Hospice’ which surpassed the initial £25,000 set goal.

Hosted from San Francisco by Emmy award-winning CBS radio and TV broadcaster Liam Mayclem, the auction featured thirty lots that included a bottle of champagne signed by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, a signed and framed Take That prize and a tennis racquet signed by three-time Wimbledon champion Boris Becker.

Winchester Hospice ambassador Mike Bridge was the driving force behind helping the fundraising team to create, plan and deliver the fundraiser and he was delighted that it had been such a success.

Mike told Winol: “I Love Winchester Hospice’ has been a great team effort.”,

“Thank you to all the auction and raffle prize donors, event sponsors, and all those who bought ticket and put in bids. Everyone involved is delighted to have put on such a fun and enjoyable event that has raised a significant sum for the Winchester Hospice Campaign.”

The fundraising appeal is now very close to hitting its 3.7 million pound target with the aim of opening in the Summer of this year.
