Winchester is a coronavirus hotspot, says research
Winchester is currently a coronavirus hotspot, according to new data.
A map, created by Imperial College London, shows Winchester as a hot spot with an estimated 99% increase of infection rates.
Imperial’s ‘covid calculator map’ predicts which parts of the country is likely to be a coronavirus ‘hotspot’.
This is worked out through the data collected of weekly reported cases and is deemed a hotspot if the cases per 100,000 of the population exceeds 50.
The scale of the heat map uses a pale green to indicate zero to 5% and red to indicate 75% or higher.
Currently there are only three areas in Hampshire that are already predicted to be hotspots – Winchester, Rushmoor and Test Valley.
The map indicates that only six out of eleven districts in Hampshire will not be a hotspot by the end of the week.
They are, Basingstoke and Deane, Chichester, Eastleigh, Fareham, Gosport, and New Forest.
