Winchester Powerlifting Champion Marina Returns to the competitive Stage
Marina Cornwall, a powerlifting champion who is also a personal trainer from Winchester Leisure centre is returning to the competitive stage after five years away from the sport.
Cornwall, 69, will participate in Mongolia, representing Great Britain, in the World powerlifting championships in October. She was invited to compete in these championships after retaining her British title earlier in the year.
This is Mariana’s first international competition since 2018 after taking a break following the loss of her mother and the Covid-19 pandemic putting a stop to competitions and training.
Mariana told Winol that she hopes to “win the gold medals” and “retain the world title” that she last won in 2018. She went onto reveal that a big motivation behind her return was that she was diagnosed with osteoporosis last year “which was a real shock because I’ve lifted weights for quite sometime now.”
Marina also encouraged anyone who is looking into to sports and fitness to get a health check in order to keep themselves safe.
Despite Mariana being at the top of her field and holding a British, European and World title, she is completely self funded, however she has received a lot of support from Winchester Leisure centre and Persimmon Homes who have kindly donated to her go fund me page.
