A massive overhaul of Rishi Sunak’s cabinet took place, as the second reshuffle of the year was underway. Home Secretary Suella Braverman was sacked, just days after controversial comments were made about the Metropolitan Police’s attitude towards pro-Palestine marchers on Armistice Weekend.

Braverman claimed that the Met would be “playing favourites” ahead of a highly expected march involving pro-Palestine marchers and a separate march involving far-right activists.

Suella Braverman’s removal from government comes following weeks of tensions between the now former Home Secretary and the Prime Minister.

Suella Braverman was replaced as Home Secretary by James Cleverly, who is regarded as one of the moderate members of the cabinet. James Cleverly had previously been the Foreign Secretary for the past year.

David Cameron, who served as Prime Minister for six years until resigning in the wake of the Brexit vote, made a surprise return to frontline politics, taking up the vacant role in the Foreign Office.

As David Cameron is no longer an MP, he will become a member of the House of Lords. His appointment has proved to be controversial, as he will not be accountable to the House of Commons in the way most cabinet members are. His title will be The Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton.
