Flights from Southampton cancelled as UK recovers from Storm Ophelia

Passengers are facing delays and cancelations today due to Storm Ophelia, flights to Belfast, Cork and Dublin have been cancelled. Flights have been cancelled as a “danger to life warning” has been implemented.

The storm was set to bring gusts of up to 80mph from the Atlantic to Ireland and parts of the UK, due to this Flybe has cancelled 47 flights today.

A Flybe statement states “The safety of our passengers and crew is our number one priority and Flybe will always do everything possible to minimise disruption”.

Flybe advises any passengers who have a flight booked on Tuesday 17th October should check to see if their flights are on the cancellation list, if a flight is not on the cancellation list passengers should keep checking their flights for updates.

The statement and cancellation of flights comes after three people in The Republic of Ireland died yesterday due to the storm.

Planes have been grounded at Manchester Airport, with 20 flights cancelled, Ireland has braced for the worst and has closed schools, public parks and cancelled more than 120 flights.
Forecasters have warned of flying debris, as well as large waves around coastal districts which may cause damage to the environment around them.
