Southampton BBC Master Chef winner will be at West Quay on Thursday as part of Time to Talk Day.

Shelina Permalloo will be cooking some of her dishes with the public to encourage more people to have conversations about mental health.

She said: “Talking to others about mental health can sometimes be tricky.

“That is why I’ve put together some delicious recipes. For people to share and have a chat with each other about mental health and get some free advice from charities.”

Charities joining the event include; Solent Mind, Radian Homes, No Limits, Samaritans, Southampton Voluntary Services, Carers in Southampton and Southampton City Libraries.

Last year, the council signed up to Time to Change to show its support for mental health and wellbeing.

Councillor David Shields said: “Mental health and wellbeing is now a national priority. What better way to get more familiar with ways to improve your mental being.

“Than to enjoy one of Shelina’s tasty treats, chat with a work colleague or family member and learn more about local resources.”

Time to Talk say one in four people may experience mental health problems at some point and are encouraging everyone to talk about mental health.

They are offering different conversation packs to try and help people speak out.
