Over £400K needed to complete new Winchester hospice

The public is being asked to help raise £400,000 to complete the £3.7m new hospice in Winchester.

The former nurses’ home on the Royal Hampshire County Hospital site, Burrell House, is being reconstructed to become a 10-bed modern hospice

Winchester Hospice will be the hub for specialist end of life care for up to 10 inpatients, as well as outpatient and community support for people in their own homes.

The local NHS Trust said: “Please help us with our final Big Push to raise £400,000 and get Winchester Hospice open.”

So far more than £3.3m has been donated to the project.

The current COVID-19 pandemic put the construction on pause back in March when the national lockdown was announced, but work resumed in May.

Alex Whitfield, chief executive of the local NHS Trust, said: “It is going to be absolutely wonderful. Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. Every pound counts and we are so grateful to everyone who donates and helps us to get the hospice open.”
