University students return to campus

New health and safety measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of students, with students returning to campus from Monday 8th March.

Students must continue to abide by social distancing rules, and wear masks everywhere on campus including outside and in classes.  It is also encouraged to complete two free Covid tests per week, to help track the virus and prevent further spreading.

Alec Charles, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University, said the campus is a safe environment for students if they follow the university and government guidance.

“We at this university, and universities across the country, have done a huge amount of work to make things as safe as possible. [If students follow the guidelines] It’s a pretty secure environment in which to work.”

He also said: “I think the most important thing for students to do is to follow the guidance given by the university and by the government.”

A statement from the University on Tuesday said:

“We are delighted to have students on practical courses returning to campus in line with the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown. It is important we keep working together to keep campus and our community safe.

 This means we all need to:

–          Follow social distancing rules

–          Get tested for Covid, twice a week, every week

–          Wear our face coverings

–          Report if we’re self-isolating or test positive

There were no new Coronavirus cases on either Monday 8th or Tuesday 9th March.

Since September 2020, there have been 198 cases linked to the University, which have all now completed their self-isolation and have recovered.
